Dr. Vijay Mallya presents, an Alipur Films production of ‘The Forest’ by Oscar nominated director Ashvin Kumar.

Ashvin's film "The Forest" is being released by PVR in theaters across India on Friday - 11 th May, 2012. His documentary Inshallah Football recently won the National Award for best film on social issues. This same film was banned last year by the Indian Censor board.
His first fiction feature film, The Forest (, is a thriller with an ecological message, a chilling tale of a man-eating leopard set in the jungles of North India. The Forest is the third release under PVR Cinema’s ‘Director’s Rare’ series and will hit Indian screens on 11th of May 2012. The film premiered at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose in February 2009, and had its market premiere at Cannes Market ‘09.
The youngest Indian writer/director with an Academy Award Oscar® nomination, Ashvin is also the first Indian to be nominated at the European Film Academy with his film ‘Little Terrorist’ which has been part of official selections to over 130 film festivals, winning awards in 25 of them, including the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) LA.

Dr. Vijay Mallya presents, an Alipur Films production of ‘The Forest’ by Oscar nominated director Ashvin Kumar. PVR’s Rare initiative releases third movie under its banner on Friday the 11th of May Oscar Nominated film short-film ‘Little Terrorist’ will also feature as a double-bill April 28th, 2012: Dr. Vijay Mallya, PVR Director’s Rare initiative and Alipur Films brings an ecological thriller – The Forest. The film directed by Academy Award nominee Ashvin Kumar, starring Jaaved Jafferi, Nandana Sen and Ankur Vikal.
It’s is the story of a vacationing couple disturbed by the arrival of the wife’s ex-lover, opening wounds that are best left unhealed; yet, unknown to them their troubles have only begun. They are being hunted by a leopard that has turned man-eater due to a failed poaching attempt, and it will stop at nothing to satisfy its hunger.
True to life, for more than a 150 people are killed in leopard or tiger attacks in India every year due to mounting poaching and encroachment on our dwindling wilderness. Unable to hunt their natural prey, such animals find it easier to hunt human beings and become man-eaters. The film is about a wounded leopard, whose only choice for survival is to hunt humans and is inspired by Jim Corbett’s man-eater tales as one who has lived through such attacks...
In ‘The Forest’, a couple from a big city are on vacation in the Indian jungle to sort out a troubled marriage when they run into the wife's ex-lover. As husband and lover lock horns for the woman, primitive instincts find voice in the wilderness and they become blind to signs of a lurking presence. A starving leopard has been shot by poachers and can’t hunt his normal prey. Desperate for a kill he turns on the weakest animal in the jungle - man. In a night of terror, survival will depend on outwitting a formidable hunter of the wild, a perfect killer who has become so accustomed to hunting man that he's begun to think like us...
Ashvin Kumar’s Oscar nominated short film Little Terrorist will also be released along with The Forest. The film is about a twelve year old Pakistani Muslim boy who mistakenly crosses the mine-field strewn border into India and finds an unusual ally - Bhola, a Hindu school teacher who must find a way of hiding him from Indian soldiers looking for the ‘terrorist’ who crossed over -

The director, Ashvin Kumar, says, “FINALLY! The Forest has been lost in the woods for five years and it’s been a heart-breaking journey. There can’t be a more humbling and educating experience than winning an Oscar nomination, producing your first feature film, then being turned down at every door in Bombay for its distribution and release.
But thanks to those rejections my journey, in the intervening years, saw me making a kids film ‘Dazed in Doon’ (the most uplifting experience of my life, then needlessly banned and
under litigation now with the Doon School); and, with Jaaved Jaffery as producer, Inshallah, football and Inshallah, Kashmir films, which gave me the chance to be with some of the most courageous and generous people I have had the privilege of knowing. Seeing their world, their struggles put certainly rendered my woes relatively insignificant and changed my outlook on life.
I was convinced that The Forest would never release in a conventional way in India. I was waiting for a time when a forward-thinking distributor would collaborate on a platform release i.e. a release that is not expecting to make all its money in two days. That distributor turned out to be PVR, who are known to be a first-mover in our industry.
I think we are witnessing a coming-of-age for Indian cinema. That day, when a network of alternative theatres will run independent cinema, is not far. The Forest has been a coming-of-age for me, and I am delighted to be a small part of this bold new experiment. Commendations to Mr. Sanjeev Bijli and Mr. Shiladitya Bora for creating this space – I hope audiences will vindicate our stand and come out in droves to see The Forest and celebrate this new way of releasing independent cinema! ”
The Forest, along with Little Terrorist will release in PVR cinemas at Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Gurgaon, Chennai, Chandigarh, Raipur, Indore and Lucknow through the PVR Director’s Rare banner.

Citylight theatre, once a landmark at Mahin returns with a new face and loads of style

‘CITYLIGHT’ SHINES IN A NEW LIGHT Mumbai, April 21, 2012: An old cine landmark turns a new leaf in its seventieth year, even as the Indian film industry completes a hundred years this may. Citylight cinema, which was a prominent landmark of the centrally located Mahim area, is soon to resume service with state of the art infrastructure under a new management. The new avatar of Citylight will retain its old-time single screen ambience, but will come with an enhanced Dolby surround sound system, UFO satellite transmission, plush seating and air-conditioning, to strike a balance between the amenities of modern multiplexes, and an ambience of a diminishing culture of single screen theatres. Due attention has been paid to the spatial constraints in the ever-crowded areas of Dadar-Mahim. The new layout of the theatre has a huge, spacious and self-sufficient parking lot, with easy access and exits for the patrons. Equipped with ultramodern security arrangements, the theatre now comes packed with separate elevators and a lobby for the screening hall. Food courts with sumptuous preparations have been carved in, along with a cozy hall available for holding functions, parties and meetings. With the facility of online booking, patrons now have an option of booking their shows virtually from anywhere. More information can be sought on At the height of its glorious history, Citylight screened classics like ‘Baiju Bawra’ and ‘Anarkali’ for weeks at end. In the later years, the theatre had been ‘lucky’ for filmmakers like the Barjatyas, whose films made weeks of fruitful collections at Citylight. The Rajshri blockbuster ‘*Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ *clocked 33 weeks, a record of sorts. After a hiatus of three years in renovation, the ailing theatre was sought to be bought from it’s previous owner, Shyamjibhai Gogri. The new management would be led by Prasad Thakur, a young, Belgaum based entrepreneur. Mr. Thakur is the managing director of Belgaum Tarun Bharat, a daily in circulation in South Maharashtra, Goa and North Karnataka. A graduate in Electronics engineering, Mr. Thakur has also earned a diploma in printing and colour management.

Stimulating exploration on Future-Proofing HR Technologies at 4th HR4ICT

Stimulating exploration on Future-Proofing HR Technologies at 4th HR4ICT London, 16 April 2012 – Technology, talent and teamwork emerged as the buzzwords of a future-proof HR strategy at the CTO’s 4th Annual HR4ICT, held at the BIS Conference Centre in London from 16 to 18 April 2012. Social media is transforming the very nature of recruitment and training, said author Jacqueline Davies in a scene-setting keynote on the first morning. “You don’t need a Learning Management System if you have YouTube.” She drew on examples of companies around the world to illustrate that first and foremost, “social media is not about technology, it is about relationships—quick, convenient and customised.” Zain Khan , CMC Founder, Alliances Consulting Group, Canada, spoke about the need to integrate HR strategies as a core part of broader organisational strategy. He shared his views on how best to build a customer-centric culture, engaging positively with cultural change management. The afternoon of the first day’s proceedings was devoted to examining the complexities of privacy and security issues relating to employee information in the cloud age, while the second day dealt with strategic future projections, deliberating how data protection will affect future HR decisions, where HR technologies will be in a decade’s time, what their impact on HR professionals is likely to be and how mobile communications will change the company standard. David McLeman , Managing Director, Ancoris, UK, rated the pros and cons of using the cloud to ease the burden of unmanageable data storage. Dr. Gus Hosein, executive director of Privacy International, highlighted the concerning extent to which technology can be used to track employee movement and behaviour, raising challenging questions regarding the nature of privacy in the 21st century. Lutz Bartsch, chief technologist, EMEA, for Munich-based SAP Success Factors, pointed out that for multi-country enterprises, local data protection laws would have to be reflected in the global cloud-based HR systems and selection of vendors becomes very important. According to a Deloitte study, 90% of employer data is electronically stored information (ESI), and 40% of executives say that data volumes are becoming unmanageable. Locating relevant data becomes more challenging, manifesting in significant losses through wasted storage space and reductions in productivity. Excessive data volumes are especially troublesome during litigation that requires electronic discovery. The prevalence of e-HR also highlights Cybersecurity issues which need to be addressed in the current climate of frequent cyber attacks. “e-HR”, the future-looking theme of the 4th Annual HR4ICT has drawn together ICT regulators, administrators, operators and training institutions from Bangladesh, Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda and the United Kingdom. HR4ICT is an annual event designed to discuss how ICT institutions can make the most effective use of human resources to achieve their institutional objectives. It has been traditionally aimed at HR professionals working for institutions in the ICT sector, mainly practitioners in the telecom, broadcasting and Internet/data networks. Commonwealth examines the implications of the UK’s Cyber Strategy

Commonwealth examines the implications of the UK’s Cyber Strategy London, 16 April 2012 - London based High Commissions met today at the Royal United Services Institute to examine the implications of the UK’s Cyber Strategy launched in November 2011 at a seminar jointly organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation and the Royal United Services Institute. The UK’s Cyber Strategy seeks to ensure security on electronic channels by building norms and behaviours that will be adhered to voluntarily. It therefore requires a broad engagement of stakeholders. The shared heritage and traditional ties of the Commonwealth that generate a high degree of electronic interactions amongst its members makes the Commonwealth an ideal platform to explore, agree and promote suitable “norms and behaviours”. The consultation held today informed High Commissions of the key elements of such a strategy and provided an opportunity for these key stakeholders to air their views. The event was chaired by Mr John Bassett OBE, Associate Fellow, Cyber Security of the Royal United Services Institute and addressed by Mr James Quinault, Director, Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance of the UK and Prof Tim Unwin, the Chief Executive Officer of the CTO. Mr Quinault identified the protection of privacy and freedom of expression while ensuring security as a key challenge while Prof Unwin expressed the hope that the dialogue started during the event will continue on a regular basis so as to ensure the delivery of a set of norms and behaviours across the Commonwealth leading to shared Cybersecurity practices. During the discussion that followed the delegates explored a number of central issues including the need to raise awareness of key stakeholders and ways of building trust as a means of promoting security. The event was sponsored by Symantec, a leading technology provider in Cybersecurity. Lens Flare - A Film Making and Art Festival celebrating Nature

Lens Flare - A Film Making & Art Festival celebrating Nature Fri Apr 20, 2012 2:34 am (PDT) The Lens Flare Project The Lens Flare Project is an Organization of Young and Vibrant Mass Media Practitioners and Creative Artists, who believe in the incredible power of films and art to transform lives and bring joy to people. We are a bunch of crazy guys, who want to channelize our art, knowledge and expertise to celebrate all the good and wonderful things around us, find out solutions and make lives simpler , things easier and fill the world with gratitude and happiness. Along the way, we want to discover and hangout with artists and mass-medians who think like us. Now this sounds too sage-like for people of our age who roam around in shorts (even at corporate meetings) but as Apple said in 1997 - Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do . Our Vision Now, this is getting too 'elderly' for us but we so want to share with you, why we are doing what we are doing! Imagine a time, not too far away, when the choice of plunging into an Art form will not be synonymous to a difficult life full of struggle, pittance and the quest for that one good opportunity to shine. You wouldn't need to know a Certain Big Guy or be somehow related to someone, to experiment, learn and grow as an artist. Imagine a time, when people will reach you, and present you with projects you would love to do! When you could chat about your ideas freely with a fellow artist, without being super conscious of the details! When you would be able to earn respect, recognition and reward, just for doing things you love the most.... This is our dream. This is what we call The Lens Flare Project! Lens Flare Every year, we will organize a massive Festival, with amazing contests and events, in which all those with an urge to create something, will get incredible opportunities to do so, and with their creations, help simplify lives and solve the greater problems of the society and the Corporate World. We call it Lens Flare. Lens Flare is a platform that connects the humungous pool of talent and creativity with the needs of a certain industry and the society at large. The idea is to create solutions through films and allied arts. Because we believe that films and art can transform the world, in magnificent ways. And so, we have chosen to begin this journey with Environment and Nature, which is not just the need of the hour, but a perfect start - because Nature is where art begins and finds its inspirations. Amazing! Sometimes, you just keep wondering at how the dots connect and things fall in place.... Isn't it? The Mission Lens Flare should only exist, for building a platform which is open, free, simple and self-challenging, to give meaningful and lasting opportunities to talented film makers, artists, musicians and all those who enrich the medium, to challenge, explore and revolutionize the experience and culture of films, so as to make them ever more potent as agents of creative solutions, joy and celebration. This is starting to sound too 'Pledge' like, but we are sticking to it! Lens Flare 2012 - A Message from our Chief Mentor - Naseeruddin Shah:

Gitanjali Creations and Saga Music unveil the soul-stirring music of award-winning inspirational film YEH KHULA AASMAAN

~ Iconic music-composer duo Anand-Milind mark their Bollywood comeback with YEH KHULA AASMAAN ~
~ Kunal Ganjawala enthrals audiences with a heart-warming performance at the music launch of YEH KHULA AASMAAN ~
Mumbai, 25th April, 2012: Gitanjali Creations, in association with Saga Music, unveiled the music album of the internationally acclaimed film YEH KHULA AASMAAN, scheduled to release on 25th May 2012. The music was launched amidst a lot of fanfare including the star cast – Raghubir Yadav, Yashpal Sharma and debutantes Raj Tandon, Anya Anand. Directed by Gitanjali Sinha, the music of YEH KHULA AASMAAN has been composed by Anand – Milind, while the lyrics have been penned by Ravi Chopra. The audience was enthralled Kunal Ganjawala’s live performance, woven in to live music rendered by Anand-Milind, with stage performances by movie’s lead stars, Raj Tandon and Anya Anand. The exceptional background music also has vocals from Suresh Wadekar, Swapnil Bandodkar, Gayatri Ganjawala, Raghubir Yadav, Soham and Amey Daate.
The award-winning movie, YEH KHULA AASMAAN, which has won several accolades in various international film festivals, and will be released in cinemas in May 2012, addresses the dreams and challenges of today’s youth by citing an example of an IIT-aspirant young boy, on the verge of succumbing to academic failures and a victim of the crumbling bond in the Indian family. Representing today’s youth and the academic pressures they face, the movie has been produced by Hemendra Aran of Gitanjali Creations, and is the directorial debut of Gitanjali Sinha. Inspired by a true story, the film is about bridging generation gaps and the portrayal of a determined human spirit supported by strong family value and systems.
The music directors’ duo Anand-Milind is making their comeback with the music of this inspirational movie nearly six years after their last composition in Bollywood. Recipient of 4 Filmfare awards, Anand-Milind have composed melodious music for over 200 Bollywood films, including super-hit Bollywood movies like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Anjaam, Suhag, Dil, Bol Radha Bol, Anari, Kurbaan, and Beta. The talented pair provided innumerable hits for many established actors like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rishi Kapoor, & many more. Commenting on their latest renditions in YEH KHULA AASMAAN, Anand said “Since the movie touches emotions across three generations, we have tried to create music that touches the depths of the heart on one hand and soars like a kite on the other. Since it deals with the youth, we have also tried to keep it very contemporary and hope that our fans will relive the same euphoria that we have delivered in the past.” Adds Milind, “YEH KHULA AASMAAN has been one of the most challenging works of our entire career. It feels great to come back to Bollywood mainstream music after a while, and we wanted to make sure that the album is equally special. We can proudly say that this is one of our best works so far and hope that the audience feels the same.”
Yeh Khula Aasmaan’s album opens with the melodious track – Har Ghadi Ek Naya – sung by one of Bollywood’s renowned playback singers, Kunal Ganjawala. “It’s always great to work with Anand-Milind, whom I consider to be legends and great contributors of the Bollywood music industry. The music of the film comprises of some of the most heartfelt tracks I have sung or heard in recent times. It’s different from our usual Bollywood masala tracks, and I hope it receives the appreciation it deserves”, said Kunal Ganjawala who also entertained the audiences with his live performance at occasion. ,br/> Being one of the few Bollywood films to be largely inspired by the Indian tradition of Kite Flying, the film also has a song reiterating the lessons of life one can learn through the medium of a ‘kite’ – Zindagi Bhi Patang Hai. The song is sung by international award winning Bollywood artist Raghubir Yadav, who also plays the role of a grandfather in the film. He says, “This is a very special song to me. Having used kite flying as an important meaningful metaphor in this movie, we thought of creating a song based on the beautiful lessons a mere kite can teach us. Each and every person with a soul shall be able to relate to this film as well as the song. I can proudly say that this is the best song out of all the ones I have sung in my career.”
YEH KHULA AASMAAN is the directorial debut of Gitanjali Sinha, who has been trained in film making at the New York Film Academy, USA, St. Martin’s College of Arts, London, and at Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods Film Institute in Mumbai. She says, “It’s an honor to work with distinguished music artists such as Anand-Milindji and Kunal Ganjawala. I have been a huge fan of Anand-Milindji since their Beta and Raja Babu days. Being my first film, Yeh Khula Aasmaan is very special to me and I consider myself lucky to have got them on board as the music directors. Undoubtedly, I consider the music of Yeh Khula Aasmaan to be the USP of the film.”
The music album, being distributed by Saga Music, has six soulful tracks and is available at prominent stores all over India. The music has also been made available on mobile phones and online portals by digital partner Unisys Infosolutions. You can watch the trailer of the movie on
Inspired from a true story, YEH KHULA AASMAAN portrays the extremely challenging phase of an IIT-aspirant young boy on the verge of succumbing to academic failures, and highlights the value of strong familial system to help nurse bruised young minds. YEH KHULA AASMAAN is the first ever Bollywood film to have won the Best Foreign Feature Film at the All Sports Los Angeles Film Festival. Additionally, the film has not only won an award at the Kids First! Film and Video Festival in USA but has also been appreciated and selected at the International Film Festival – South Africa, International Youth Film Festival, International Film Festival – Ireland and Heart of England International Film Festival. Director: Quentin Tarantino Cast: Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio Synopsis: ,br/> Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.
Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.
Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…
