Film: 3 Days to Kill
Director: McG

Rating: *  * ½

Running Time: 113 min.

Synopsis: For decades Ethan Runner (Kevin Costner) has kept his dangerous career a carefully guarded secret -- not even his wife and daughter know what he really does for a living. Shortly after receiving a grim medical diagnosis, Ethan decides to give up his dangerous career for one last shot at being a decent husband and father. Meanwhile, Ethan has been tasked with watching his daughter while his wife goes out of town for a few days. But when the agency offers Ethan a life-saving cure in exchange for capturing a notorious terrorist, he reluctantly accepts. Now, with his daughter's safety in his hands for the first time in a decade and the powerful drug's debilitating side effects taking hold, the hunt begins.

Review
Director McG and producer Luc Besson try to get Kevin Costner to go the Liam Neeson way but he resists the temptation.  The "This Means War" helmer and the man responsible in some way or another for the "Taken," "Transporter," and "Taxi" movies plunk the aging star into a fairly cynical actioner that freaks out on sequences that has the ageing actor doing the impossible while seemingly on his way to meet his creator. Costner doesn’t get dragged down by the reauirement of going flat out and muscle bound. He is earnest and sincere and  brings an easy integrity and seemingly effortless humanity to his part.

The plot is messy, the narrative meanders along and the exoectations from the lead actor are silly and over zealous. The explosions have a deafening sound and the villain is so caricaturish that he resembles a toon. Costner’s character is made to do the stupidest of things- like for instance he tortures the baddies and while doing so seeks their take on parenting. It’s just not funny though that was the idea , I guess. McG , famous for his music videos and action films, tries to invest this film with a frenetic tone but it goes haywire. Too much is happening with too little clarity. Only Thierry Arbogast’s engaging sepia-lit camerawork manages to create some semblance of atmosphere. The rest of it just does not curry favor!
