In an unfortunate co-incidence there are three underdog to success , sporting hero stories in the cinemas this week. ‘Hawaa Hawaii’ we’ve already reviewed and after Khwaabb, it’s the turn of ‘Million Dollar Arm’ the Disney film.  Khwaabb extends it’s premise to achieve Olympic Glory. The film depicts in great detail , the struggle that an athlete has to go through , in order to achieve his dreams.

The film is about one man’s dream/ambition to win a medal for India at the Olympics.  The struggle for self-belief and appreciation is a hurtful one.
Movie showcases how raw talent gets wasted or destroyed by corrupt politicians and power hungry officials. One such athlete struggle to succeed in the cut-throat, corrupted and dirty world of Indian sports. In his journey, athlete has to give up everything to follow his dream, is the core of Khwaabb. The story has a lot of similarities with ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ but the narrative is generally incoherent and fails to achieve that same potency. The film tries to highlight the role bureaucrats and administrators play in the sporting world. An it’s not a pretty picture. The ensuing dramatics was entirely predictable and un-enlivening. The performances also lack gravitas. With a reasonably solid premise, the narrative should have been more assured and imaginative. Unfortunately that’s not the case. And the result is unexciting!
