Mastram(Hindi) Rating: *  * Trying to sell soft porn in the guise of respectability. Interesting idea but told in a sleazy, exploitative, lackluster manner minus charm and interest.

This film, is meant to be an exploration of sexual fantasies through erotica. It’s about a writer’s life- a writer who finds himself at the crossroads , unable to pursue his dream and hence gets down to baser stuff- composing porn for the masses. Mastram, is a class of porn writing that is crude, unpolished and erotic. It has many takers in north India and this film too may find it’s faithful, even if it’s just on the basis of curiosity.
Rajeev Bagga essays the role of the porn writer who puts his erotic fantasies to paper and finds far more takers for it than he would have, had he been a writer. Rajaram is a guy with an ordinary bank job but harbors within him the aspiration to make it big as a writer. He has one failed novel in his kitty, and that alone garners him tremendous humiliation. With everyone rejecting his 'novel attempts due to the lack of ‘masala’ factor, he ends up writing his bestseller by penning down erotic literature. The man strikes gold  but he cannot come out in open about his success. And that is how  Rajaram  journeys to become Mastram. The narrative is choppy, gets embroiled in lurid fantasies and jerks back into crude prose. The indulgence with erotic sex gets a little too over-the-top. There’s not much polish to this enterprise and the performances are also quite unaccomplished. Jaiswal’s direction doesn’t allow for any depth. The intent is clear right from the start, and it’s all so predictable and exasperating after a point.
