The idea in play here is quite interesting. ‘What if a modeling agency decides to groom the dregs of society in a career that involves glamour and celeb-dom?’ Unfortunately that’s not the premise of this vulgar revisit of several clichéd ideas borrowed from a wide spectrum cutting across all media.
Tania(Rituparna Sen Gupta) has just returned from a year’s sabbatical in London with a partner, Jason, in tow. He is the one who motivated her to give up alcohol and give herself another chance at setting up a successful modeling agency with primary focus on winning the Glamoureena contest. Then begins the back story. Tania was Miss Chandigarh and was in a relationship with an aspiring Mr Chandigarh. When he proposed she made his winning the title a condition for her hand in marriage. He loses the contest and she gets involved with the title winner. She continues her winning spree and wins the Glamoureena contest for five years in a row until the once aspiring Mr Chandigarh / ex-lover decides to seek revenge by setting-up a rival organization to win the coveted title. He manages to bribe the judges and win it and Tania, cannot face up to the defeat and has a melt-down. There’s much more to the story than just that and it’s all so complicated and jumbled up.
On her return Tania seeks help from another former lover who has now turned politician, Manmeet(Shahbaaz Khan) and is all set to fight for the prestigious title with the innovative idea of choosing her models from amongst the dregs of society and the grooming them into winning shape.
The story is quite predictable and the treatment is a little too lascivious – obviously titled towards titillating. You see women doing the catwalk in swimsuits and revealing costumes, a guy being stripped by a gang of women and plenty of flirtations and sleeping around. There’s also some callous disregard shown towards an illegitimate child for want of a modeling career. And it all culminates in a winner’s speech that sounds extremely fake and put-on. The publicity material of the film has been designed to lure in an audience looking of cheap thrills but the film itself despite it’s subject matter and treatment, could well leave you cold. Director Sunanda Shyamal Mitra prefers to ply on the indecent exposure without providing any connect in the narration. Be warned!
