Maverick Entrepreneur Shailendra Singh Dons a new hat, Directs his first feature film 'Sunshine Music Tours &Travels

Maverick Entrepreneur Shailendra Singh Dons a new hat, Directs his first feature film 'Sunshine Music Tours &Travels'

After burning his hands to the tune of Rs 100 crore (if not more), by producing niche, largely middle of the road cinema, Maverick Entrepreneur and film producer Shailendra Singh (Percept Picture Co) took a brief hiatus from the film world and went about setting a new idea on fire-'Sunburn Music festival' which has been growing in stature over the few years that it has become a go-to event for all the upwardly mobile young at heart set interested in music and dance. Success at 'Sunburn' has emboldened him, in fact, to re-enter the film making arena , this time, with an idea that appears to be a culmination of his own dreams and desires fronted on an adventurous road trip that culminates full blast in the Sunburn music festival( that's the little we could get from the promos).

And to take this journey forward, Shailendra Singh picks up untested talent from the city's live-wire happening spots to support the lead debut making actor Sunny Kaushal, younger brother to Vicky Kaushal and son of action choreographer Shyam Kaushal- who got his big break from Nana Patekar when the latter launched his directorial debut film 'Prahaar.'

Needless to say the launch assemblage included Nana Patekar, Shyam kaushal, Vicky kaushal, Madhur Bhandarkar(Whose films were produced by Percept Picture Co) and Kapil Dev. Nana patekar, who usually shies away from such events made it because his friend Shyam kaushal's second son was making his debut with this film while Kapil Dev was there because of his long standing friendship with Shailendra Singh. Singh also had his family of two brothers and mother grace the event.

The trailer launch was held at Deepak Cinema, MAtterden and was a well attended affair while the music launch was at Khar Social a day ago. The trailer gave the impression that this was yet another 'Honeymoon Travels' sort of journey across the country that culminates in a music festival- just maybe there's enough interesting happening in between to keep the audience interested. The music is peppy and energised so youngsters are likely to grgravitate to it for brief spells at least. Unfortunately it's not that memorable or affecting.

Quotes of the Celebrities Sonam Kapoor who got emotional after watching the film and couldn't hold back her tears says, “I was really moved by Chauthi Koot. It is an exquisite film and very very special. I hope a lot of people get to see the film. I loved the film. its very hard to choose what I liked the most about the film as it is beautifully painted, its like seeing a canvas and not understanding what it is that moved you. It is about extreme emotions, it is about silence, it is about pain, it is about love, it is about loyalty, it is about angst.” Nandita Das – “Very pure, very moving, very real, seldom do they make such films. Completely a different feeling.” Rahul Bose – “It is a very difficult question, to understand how you liked the film. It is very ruminative, measured, un-interfering attitude towards film making. I have enormous respect towards people who do as they believe. He is not looking over his shoulder at anybody. He is making the film as he believes. And I find that compelling. You might not like a film, but when you find it compelling, that’s when you know that the person has done it truly. It is a very true film. I do not want to extract a part for entertainment and name it my favourite. I like the whole film - that moment, that world, that texture. It is a beautiful narrative, very soulful film. A lot of soul in the film. What I like the most about this movie is how it has an uncompromising attitude towards the cinematic.” Vicky Kaushal – “I am a Punjabi guy and my family belongs to small village like it is shown in the film, in Punjab. I have heard a lot of stories from my mother, father about the tensed atmosphere back in 1984. I thought, whatever I had heard, I saw the visuals today. Not in terms of violence, just the atmosphere, the tensed atmosphere. And I think it is very rare that you see a director showcasing/expressing it in a pure form. That is the best part about it.The cinematography was absolutely fantastic." Anand Gandhi tweeted “Experience fear, uncertainty and unnerving suspense in this masterfully crafted piece of cinema: Chauthi Koot." In another tweet he said, “The best film of the year is here! Chauthi Koot releases nationwide on the 5th of August. Do not miss it! On the 75th Anniversary of “Quit India Movement” on 8th August, 2016, www.mintageworld.com launched a docudrama on the history of the various stamps, coins and notes minted to celebrate the spirit of Indian Patriotism & Freedom Struggle

On the 75th Anniversary of “Quit India Movement” on 8th August, 2016, www.mintageworld.com launched a docudrama on the history of the various stamps, coins and notes minted to celebrate the spirit of Indian Patriotism & Freedom Struggle August, 2016, Mumbai: On 8th August, 1942, “Quit India Movement” was launched by Mahatma Gandhi for Satyagraha, during World War II. Mahatma Gandhi gave the slogan ‘Do or Die’ in this movement. His words were “We shall either free India or die in the attempt”. These words swept across India gushing like fire and awakening its people to call for a rising. Hundreds of men and women marched on the streets shouting slogans of ‘Bharat Choddo’ or Quit India. Indian Government have also planned many events & programs which will be held all over the country to celebrate this landmark date on Monday, 8th August 2016 Some of the unique Stamps & Coins launched to celebrate the spirit of this movement for Indian Freedom Struggle were as follows: Stamps: The 15 paisa stamp: On 1st October 1967, Indian Post issued a 15 paisa stamp, which depicted life-size statue of the seven youths at the Martyr’s Memorial, Patna. These youths were 7 young students who carried the national flag and strided towards the Secretariat building. Shots were fired and teargases deployed as they tried to hoist the flag on it. One by one, all seven youths were killed mercilessly in the firing. The 50 paisa stamp. In 1983 a 50 Paisa stamp was launched by the Indian Post. It has Mahatma Gandhi & Jawaharlal Nehru at its focal. This stamp accurately depicts the day in 1942 where the All India Congress Committee passed a Quit India Resolution calling for all Indians to rise up in rebellion against the British 1 and 2 rupees stamps: 2 stamps of 1 and 2 rupees were issued in 1992 to mark 50 years of “Quit India Resolution”. Gandhi’s slogan of the movement “Karenge ya Marenge” “Do or Die” were beautifully portrayed on this stamp. It tells a story of how after the announcement of “ Quit India movement” in 1942 , there was a huge riot and many congress leaders including Mahatma Gandhi were arrested.A wave of Rebellion swept the country mobs tore up railway tracks, toppled telegraph towers and torched police stations. Policemen and British government officials were dragged from home through the streets, beaten and killed. Labor strikes paralyzed the entire British supply chains and bomb blasts in major cities became a daily occurrence.. Coins: In 1992 4 commemoratives coins of Rs. 1, 10, 50 and 100 were issued by the Reserve Bank of India to celebrate the golden jubilee of “ Quit India Movement “. The coins depict the “Martyr’s Memorial at Patna” on the obverse with the words “Bharat Choddo Andolan” in Hindi and “Quit India Movement” in English. Prior to this movement, the control of British over India was very strong. They were convinced that the Congress did not have mass support, and could be crushed easily. Instead, it was the illusion of British legitimacy that was crushed. Never before had this nation of millions had seen such solidarity that brought its citizens of different religions and languages together under one roof and one goal. An excellent demonstration of nationalism by the Indians it shook the British empire at it core. The fear, the terror of being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, the struggle to stay alive amidst fear and loathing comes to life in #GurvinderSingh’s achingly real telling. #MoodsOfCrime(Hindi) Rating: * * This should have been titled ‘modes of crime,’ it’s that theoretical and unconvincing. Neither the mood nor the moments are set up with any conviction. Just two psychology students playing around with crime before becoming victims of their own compulsions. The final act with an all too obvious manufactured twist is totally unconvincing. #Fever (Hindi) Rating: * * ½ It’s interesting but lacks coherence. Is he Karan or Armin, Was he in love with Pooja, Kavya or Rhea or all three, was he an assassin, a serial lover or author are the questions that haunt this amnesiac who wakes up in a hospital bed and finds his memory wiped clean. The rest of the film deals with stringing together disperse strands in the hope that it will lead to something. Unfortunately it doesn’t. It’s Convoluted and the editing makes the narrative seem ridiculous but the showy cinematography and European locations are a lifeline here. #Ebrahim #PearlMedia #AnshulTyagi #AnkitaMakwana #PrakharGaur #RajeevKhandelwal #GemmaArkinson #CaterinaMurino #GauharKhan #RajeevJhaveri #VictorBannerjee #NicheFilm #FarmPlusEntertainmentPvtLtd #JayaSapthagiriProductions #RaviAgarwal #MahesgBalekundri #AjayChabbria #RajathManjunath Runtime: 128 mins

#SuicideSquad(English) Rating: * * ½ This Patchy actioner based on #DCComic book characters hopes for pop-culture to do the trick at the Box office. Positioned as a continuum in-between #BatmanVsSuperman and the upcoming #Justiceleague this one has just too many characters and too little room to breathe. The feminine replacements strike up a reasonable comedic action force but it’s not quite enough to get the feeling of déjà vu and ennui out of the experience. They drive themselves into a tizzy without so much as a reason. And the kids are monsters too. The caricaturist stereotypes get overplayed, the sight gags rouse up a fair bit of fun but the sex talk, reprobate behavior & reliance on alcohol as a source of a good time doesn’t augur well for the future of young ones who might get lured into this! The underlining wonder highlighting a Spielberg fantasy is sorely missing from this production given to spectacle but without much emotional heft to augment it. Even the CGI and motion capture don’t appear all that seamless. #UniversalCommunications #ParagDesai #RelianceEntertainment #JanuszKaminski #WaltDisneyPictures #StevenSpielberg #MarkRylance #BillHader #RubyBarnhill #JemaineClement #ÓlafurDarriÓlafsson #AdamGodley #ChrisGibbs #JonathanHolmes #PaulMonizdeSa #PenelopeWilton #RebeccaHall #JohnWilliams #RaoldDahl #MelissaMathison Runtime: 117 mins

#Ghostbusters(English/3D) Rating: * * ½ This gender-changed reboot has female ghostbusters pilfering gadgets to strike up a telling blow on the anarchistic paranormal beings. The feminine replacements strike up a reasonable comedic action force but it’s not quite enough to get the feeling of déjà vu and ennui out of the experience. The cameo visits by the original cast pay homage to the past but the rekindling of those memories only make it more difficult to look to the new in this. #SonyPicturesEntertainment #ThinkinkCommunications #MelissaMcCarthy #KateMcKinnon #LeslieJones #KristenWiig #ChrisHemsworth #PrajaktaSheth #NavjotKaur #SwetaPoojary #AndyGarcia #MichaelKWilliams #NeilCasey #DanAykroyd #BillMurray #ErnieHudson #SigourneyWeaver #AnniePotts #PaulFeig #HaroldRamis #RobertDYeoman #TheodoreShapiro #ColumbiaPictures #VillageRoadshowPictures IvanReitmanProduction #IvanReitman #AmyPascal Runtime: 105 mins

#BadMoms(English) Rating: * * ½ There don’t seem to be no difference between American teens and American Moms if you believe what’s portrayed by Hollywood. But as a standalone unusual experience it fails. In fact there’s hardly anything new here other than the spec less production design, imaginative scaling and computer animatronix. #Madaari sshhh Desh So Raha Hai(Hindi) Rating: * * ½ Nishikant Kamat uses the ‘A Wednesday’ device ( which now appears gimmicky)to turn the kidnapping of a Home Minister’s son into a fight for justice in which the common man pits himself against the system with an aim to winning hearts and proving his point in the bargain. The narrative has it’s interesting, pungent, pinchhitting, bitter, heartfelt moments but the choppy editing and the obviously contrived plotting leaves the viewer largely unaffected. Irrfan goes a little over-the-top hogging the limelight in what could be termed as his first home production while #JimmyShergill puts out yet another impeccable performance. #SpicePR #IrrfanKhan #JimmySheirgill #TusharDalvi #NishikantKamat #SutapaSikdar #PoojaEntertainment #VashuBhagnani #MirajEntertainment #BharatShah #EaseMyTripdotcom #ShaileshRSingh #MadanPaliwal #ShailjaKejriwal #RakshaEntertainment #ParamhansCreations #DoreFilms #SaptarishiCinevision #NiteshPandey #MasterVisheshBansal Runtime: 133mins
#MCream(Hindi) Rating: * * Neither deep nor transcendental, just Sloshed and high on euphoric imaginings, this one gets wobbly and shaky as the runtime prolongs. It appears inspired by a 70’s Hippy India mindset and has it’s principal four characters road ‘trip’ through Dharamshala and the scenic Himalayan ranges for it’s philosophical, spiritual & activist refuge but it doesn’t work. Everything seems fake and put on - save for the actors who do their best alongside some eclectic fusion music -to keep the flaky narrative intriguing in fits and spurts. #ParullGossainPR #BarryJohn #TomAlter #LushinDubey #IraDubey #RaaghavChanana #AuritraGhosh #ImaadShah #AgneyaSingh #VindhyaSingh #AgniputraFilms #MandiraBevatia #AbanRaza Runtime:115 mins

#Kabali(Tamil/Hindi) Rating: * * Shoring up the fantasia image of benevolence that the Thalaiva has cultivated over the years (through subsequent films and fan powered popular iconography) espousing his generosity and valor, ‘Kabali’ is a trivial pursuit that may satisfy the fans (because they crave for repetition) but is sure to leave the others quite dissatisfied. An ageing Gangster ( also goes back in time reprising exploits of his youth for nostalgia seekers) donning the mantle of Robin hood/Messiah for the tamils/Dalits while rescuing his daughter (in Malaysia where he has a sizeable fan base) just doesn’t suit anymore. The Style King struts his pop iconisms with the usual chutzpah but it’s getting tedious and boring now. #RadhikaApte as always is a joy to behold. The film has a lot of firsts in terms of marketing and outreach but it’s ‘Not A First!’ Gawd knows why people( read paid media) are making a song and dance of a Rajni film. The Miss Lovely director Ashim Ahluwalia’s next, a 16mm short film, ‘Events In A Cloud Chamber’ to have its World Premiere at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival

~Events In A Cloud Chamber is a result of Ashim’s collaboration with the 89 year old legendary Indian artist, Akbar Padamsee to remake the experimental film he had made in 1969, the print of which is now lost~

Mumbai, August 3, 2016: Ashim Ahluwalia, the director of award-winning, Miss Lovely collaborated with the 89 year old noted Indian artist, Akbar Padamsee, and Jhaveri Contemporary to remake the visionary 16mm short film called, Events In A Cloud Chamber.
The 20-minutes short film will have its World Premiere at the 73rd Venice Film Festival in the section, Venice ClassicThe festival takes place in Venice from 31st August to 10th September 2016.
In 1969, the Padma Bhushan recipient, Akbar Padamsee, one of the pioneers in Modern Indian painting along with Raza, Souza and M.F. Hussain, made a visionary 16mm film called, Events In A Cloud Chamber. This was one of the only Indian experimental films ever made back in 1969, the print is now lost and no copies exist.
Over 40 years later, filmmaker Ashim Ahluwalia worked with Padamsee, now 89 years old, to remake the film.
The 20-minute-short is produced by Ahluwalia’s film company, Future East, in association with the art gallery, Jhaveri Contemporary, where the film will be screened in November, 2016.

Ashim Ahluwalia says, When I met Akbar Padamsee, he was 87 years old. I knew he was one of the pioneers of Indian modernist painting but I had no idea that he had made two forgotten experimental films.”
Talking about how the collaboration happened, Ashim reveals, “Akbar was really keen to collaborate on something cinematic because he knew I was interested in that sort of thing. I really wasn't sure what we could do together until he just happened to tell me about this second film - Events in a Cloud Chamber.”
“After just a handful of screenings, this film was shipped to an art expo in Delhi in the 70s where it was misplaced. There was no negative and the film is now long lost. This could have been the start of an entirely different kind of cinema in India but I suppose that was never meant to be” he laments.
Talking about the exciting process of bringing a lost film back to life after half a century, he adds, “I wanted him to try and remember this film so that we could both attempt to make it again. He couldn't completely remember how exactly the film was made, and that was what made the process so fascinating and collaborative for me.” He adds.
“I find this stuff more inspiring, more future-looking than anything going on today in the art or film world. It's like ghost stories - so many missing links, mysterious artworks, lost films. But I’m not trying to be nostalgic, just trying to look to the past to find inspiration because there were so many directions started and never finished“ he signs off.

Synopsis of Events In a Cloud Chamber
In 1969, Akbar Padamsee, one of the pioneers of Modern Indian painting, made a film called Events In A Cloud Chamber. Shot on a 16mm Bolex, the film ran for six minutes and featured a single image of a dreamlike terrain. Inspired by one of Padamsee's own oil paintings, he experimented with a new technique of superimposing shapes formed with stencils and a carousel projector.
After just a handful of screenings, the film was shipped to an art expo in New Delhi where it was misplaced. The film existed only as a single positive print and there were no copies. This was possibly the birth of experimental film in India, but it ended before it began.
What was this mysterious film? A rare, spectral trace of India's forgotten avant-garde cinema, Events In A Cloud Chamber now exists only in memory. But can one rebuild a film from memory? More than 40 years later, filmmaker Ashim Ahluwalia worked with Padamsee, currently 88 years old, to remake the film. Events In A Cloud Chamber (2016) is a result of their collaboration.
Like a maze that leads into endless other mazes, Events In A Cloud Chamber’s vanishing reads like a fable. More than just the disappearance of an artwork or an aborted attempt at an experimental film movement, it suggests ideas about mortality. As Padamsee, now in his twilight years, looks back, what does he see?Does art stop aging and preclude death? Like extinct languages and deathbed confessions, Events is ultimately a ghost story, meditating on vanished art, mortality and the phantoms that we leave behind.

The group was to have a lasting impact on Indian art. Over the years, Padamsee has explored various mediums such as oil painting, plastic emulsion, watercolor, sculpture, printmaking and computer graphics.
